Salt, Stone, and Silk: A Japanese Chronicle

Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hakone, Kamakura, Tokyo: two journeys through Japan, in 2024 and 2025, photographed along the way.

Salt for the ocean at Kamakura, where the wind smells of the sea. Stone for the temples, their gates and steps worn smooth by centuries of feet. Silk for the kimonos, worn to a shrine or simply on a walk through the city.

These aren’t postcards. They are what I stopped for between the places I had come to see: rain on a city street, a patterned umbrella shared by two people, a sunlit path through the trees. Taken together, they are a notebook of colour, texture, and the moments when something moving holds still for a second.
